Movies: SPOILER ALERT!

I just got back from watching "Despicable Me" at my local theater and some things have been building up 'til I just had to write about it.

"Despicable Me" was great! I loved the animation, the minions were adorable, and it was a cute story. My only real problem with it was... it was in 3D. I am not really all that fond of 3D. For some movies yes, and for those movies I am perfectly willing to pay $2 extra to see it in 3D, but for the movies I don't want to see in 3D? It's annoying. I understand that it's the reviewers fault and not the producers, and I enjoyed the credit scenes where they really went all out on the 3D, but I wouldn't have paid the $2 if I had the choice.

"Avatar:The Last Airbender". My sisters got me hooked into this story a few years ago and I really enjoyed the cartoons. I saw the trailers a year before it came out and kept track of the days until it came out. I saw the commercials about the 3D and decided that Airbender would look awesome in 3D and went to the theater with 2 extra dollars just for it. I was shocked when they said they only had it in regular format. I was incensed when they told me that the 3D version had gotten bad reviews and so they didn't bother getting it in 3D (hence my earlier comment about reviewers. I still had a good time. The movie was great, the boy who played Sokka was a bit too old, Monk Gyatso was too young (by a lot!), and they skipped some vital parts of the story. Yes, I know there are three other movies coming, but that wasn't what I was talking about. There was a ton of pretty cool character building scenes they missed (surprisingly enough, they kept most of the Prince Zuko scenes). Near the end, Aang goes the the western(?) air temple and gets captured, before he gets captured he's supposed to have an avatar experience with the statues, in the movie they totaly skipped it. Also, when he waterbends and scares the fire nation away? He's supposed to waterbend a giant water monster that forms around him and crushes several fire nation ships. Guess what... they made it a lot less scary... although I do have to say it did look pretty cool. He water bended and giant wave and held it over the ships until they fled in fear. All-in-all, an enjoyable experience, but I'm still miffed about the 3D.

"Knight and Day" was AWESOME! It was funny and devious and just plain crazy. When they shoot Day full of truth serum? HILARIOUS! Though it could have done without the sexual remarks. She flat out asks Knight if he wants to have sex with her. Although... and this is big people. There. Wasn't. A. Sex. Scene. YAY!!!! A PG-13 movie without a sex scene! I was very, very pleased. Unfortunately, they made it up in other ways. There was the afore mentioned sex remarks, and Diaz dropped the F-bomb twice. I only heard it once, but my sister assures me she said it twice (isn't it sad when you don't even notice it anymore?). My rating? I'd give it 3 out of 5 stars. It was the funniest movie I'd seen in a long time, but I'm gonna be harsh on the flaws I mentioned.

Well, that was my summers worth of movies. Well, almost. I'm gonna go see "The Sorcerer's Apprentice" and hopefully get to have some fun with that. Have a good summer. :)

Scholarship Scam

I just got a scholarship application in the mail today. It was geared specifically for my type of degree was typed out on nice paper and was signed by Ike Onwo (whoever he is) in blue ink. I checked it out on Google and sure enough...SCAM! I read a little further and guess what? They wanted me to pay $29 to apply for the scholarship. Come ON scam people! I'm looking for a FREE SCHOLARSHIP! I don't have the money to PAY for one! Man, sometimes it seems like the scammers don't even think.

The moral of this story is...If you get a letter from USA Scholarship, signed by Ike Onwo, it's a scam.
